Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed Thursday that the department has drafted a $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump ahead of the country's 250th anniversary. Any final printing requires Congress to change the law barring living presidents from U.S. currency.
Bessent spoke during a White House press briefing. He said preparations began after proposed legislation reached the Senate, but stressed the department will follow existing rules until lawmakers act. The bill would mark the first time since 1866 that a living person appears on American currency if approved.
