Retired Lt. Col. David Flippo won the Republican primary for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District on June 9, 2026. Teresa Benitez-Thompson secured the Democratic nomination the following day. Both candidates will face off in November in the district currently held by retiring Rep. Mark Amodei.
Flippo, backed by President Donald Trump, defeated a field of 13 candidates including former state Sen. James Settelmeyer. He campaigned on hardline immigration and transgender policies while overcoming criticism over recently moving to the Reno area from Las Vegas. Benitez-Thompson, a former state Assembly majority leader, beat seven Democratic opponents. She received the endorsement of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and focused on repealing right-to-work laws and opposing federal funding cuts. The district, which Trump carried by 14 points in 2024, has never elected a Democrat. Flippo enters the general election as the clear favorite.
