Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari both reached finals on the same day, marking a notable moment for Greek tennis.
Tsitsipas was scheduled to contest the Gstaad Open final against seventh-seeded Raphael Collignon. Sakkari was set to face third-seeded Barbora Krejcikova in the Athens final.
Tsitsipas posted on X after learning of Sakkari’s run: “Proud of @mariasakkari‘s inspirational run this week in Athens. Seeing us both in finals on the same day is a special moment for Greek tennis. We’ve shared many milestones over the years, and this is just the beginning of another exciting chapter.”
Both players reached a Tour-level final for the first time in their respective events. Tsitsipas had beaten two seeded players en route, while Sakkari advanced past Harriet Dart, Alycia Parks and Alina Korneeva.
