U.S. military forces struck two Iranian oil tankers Friday in the Strait of Hormuz after exchanging fire with Iranian forces overnight. The attacks came amid efforts to enforce a blockade and followed reported Iranian missile and drone strikes on the United Arab Emirates.
The U.S. military said its forces disabled the tankers that were attempting to breach an American blockade of Iranian ports. Hours earlier, troops thwarted attacks on three Navy ships and struck Iranian military facilities in the strait, with no American vessels hit. Video released by the Pentagon showed fighter jets targeting the smokestacks of the vessels.
