The Utah Mammoth defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Sunday at the Delta Center, extending their win streak to three games and remaining undefeated at home. Goals from Logan Cooley, Clayton Keller and Dylan Guenther secured the victory for Utah, while David Pastrnak scored twice for Boston. Nick Schmaltz and Keller combined for four points in the win.
The game began with high energy as Liam O’Brien and Mark Kastelic fought four minutes in, igniting the crowd. Utah struck first at 4:20 of the opening period on a power play. Nick Schmaltz's shot from the slot deflected off Logan Cooley's back and over Joonas Korpisalo's shoulder for a 1-0 lead, with assists to Schmaltz and Clayton Keller.
Boston tied it at 14:38 on another power play. Charlie McAvoy passed to Pavel Zacha in the slot, who one-touched it between his legs to David Pastrnak at the left side of the net for his first goal. The period ended 1-1.
In the second, Pastrnak gave the Bruins a 2-1 edge at 5:46 during a 2-on-1 rush, sliding a pass from Marat Khusnutdinov past Vitek Vanecek. Physical play followed, including a scrum leading to offsetting roughing penalties for Nikita Zadorov and Brandon Tanev. During ensuing four-on-four hockey, Schmaltz fed Keller for a tap-in at 15:57, tying it 2-2.
Utah took the lead for good at 10:37 of the third when J.J. Peterka stole the puck from Khusnutdinov and passed to Dylan Guenther for a one-timer from the left circle. The Mammoth held on through Boston's late empty-net pushes, with Vanecek making 24 saves on 26 shots for his first win with the team.
Korpisalo stopped 24 shots for Boston. Schmaltz earned two assists, extending his points streak, while Keller had a goal and assist. Pastrnak's goals were his 394th and 395th, tying Ray Bourque for sixth in Bruins history.
Utah coach Andre Tourigny praised the third period: “I really liked the way we stayed with it in the third.” Boston's Marco Sturm noted, “They gave everything they had from the first to the last minute.” The win marked Utah's third comeback victory, tying for the NHL lead, and improved their home record to 3-0-0, a franchise first. Utah (4-2-0) hosts Colorado next; Boston (3-4-0) faces Florida after a 0-3-0 road trip.
