Vietnam president to visit Philippines

Vietnam President Tô Lâm will make a state visit to the Philippines from May 31 to June 1, Malacañang announced. The trip marks the first such visit by a Vietnamese party leader.

Tô Lâm, who also serves as general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Marcos. The discussions will cover trade, investment, food security, defense, maritime issues, education, tourism and people-to-people ties.

The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and the 10th year of their strategic partnership. Vietnam remains the Philippines’ only strategic partner in Southeast Asia and hosts more than 7,000 Filipinos.

Malacañang said the Philippine consulate general in Ho Chi Minh is set to open in mid-2026.
