Western Cape government assures sufficient fuel supply amid concerns

The Western Cape Government has assured residents of sufficient fuel supplies to meet demand. This follows concerns over the Middle East conflict's potential impact, with Premier Alan Winde urging suppliers to avoid unethical practices.

The Western Cape Government stated on March 20, 2026, that there is sufficient fuel in the province to meet demand. This assurance addresses rising concerns about the impact of the Middle East conflict on local supplies. Premier Alan Winde said there is no cause for concern, with more than enough fuel in reserve. He called on fuel suppliers to immediately release full orders and warned against unethical practices like delaying deliveries or hoarding supplies. “We have received isolated reports of shortages, and we have Agri Western Cape that’s also received some shortages, specifically in the Garden Route and the West Coast District. We are having a look at this,” Winde said. He added: “We are asking the fuel supply industry to check it out. We’re also going across the Agri system to check and see what it is. We just also want to put out a message that says it is unethical for suppliers to delay the delivery of fuel or to hoard or to hold back fuel supplies.” Authorities are examining these isolated shortage reports.
