Jacob Zuma, president of the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party, addressed supporters in Cape Town and said voting is the solution to ongoing socio-economic problems facing black South Africans.
Zuma spoke to hundreds of MKP supporters at the Delft South Community Hall on the Cape Flats. He said the time has come for the majority of black South Africans to exercise their power to vote and liberate themselves.
The address was part of the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the voter registration weekend. Local government elections are scheduled for 4 November.
Zuma noted that many people continue to face unemployment, limited access to education and high inequality. He stated that most South Africans are still not free.
“I’m sure we all agree that the freedom that we thought we finally have was not what they wanted,” Zuma said. “In fact, if we think properly, we suffer more than we did before.”
