5.2-magnitude earthquake hits Liuzhou leaving three missing

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Liunan District in Liuzhou, Guangxi, early Monday, leaving three people missing and four injured.

The quake hit at 0:21 a.m. Monday at a depth of 8 kilometers, with its epicenter in Taiyangcun town, 16 kilometers from downtown Liuzhou, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

Tremors were felt across Liuzhou and nearby cities including Guigang, Wuzhou, Hechi and Nanning. As of 4 a.m., 13 buildings had collapsed and more than 7,000 residents had been relocated.

Basic services such as communications, power, water and road transport remained operational. Local authorities activated a Level-IV emergency response and dispatched rescue teams to search for the missing and inspect buildings and infrastructure.
