Benintendi hits pinch-hit grand slam in White Sox win

Andrew Benintendi delivered a pinch-hit grand slam to lift the Chicago White Sox to a 5-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Thursday night.

Benintendi, who played for the Yankees in the second half of the 2022 season, entered in the eighth inning with the score tied at 1-1. The bases were loaded after Jacob Gonzalez and Tristan Peters were hit by pitches. He faced reliever Camilo Doval and hit the first pitch for a grand slam, his fourth career slam.

"I wasn’t trying to do too much," Benintendi said. "I was looking for one of his fastballs." The hit marked the first pinch-hit grand slam by a White Sox player since Orlando Hudson accomplished the feat in 2012.

Sean Burke, making a bulk appearance behind opener Bryan Hudson, struck out eight over 7 1/3 innings while allowing one run. Manager Will Venable praised Burke’s dominance with his fastball. The White Sox improved to 6-5 against teams with winning records since June 5.
