Le gouvernement envisage de scinder le ministère du Logement pour créer un département dédié à Delhi

Le gouvernement étudie un projet visant à diviser le ministère du Logement et des Affaires urbaines en deux entités, dont l'une se concentrerait exclusivement sur Delhi et la région de la capitale nationale. Chacune disposerait de son propre secrétaire afin de rationaliser la supervision.

La proposition transformerait l'actuelle division de Delhi en un département à part entière. Celui-ci pourrait couvrir la région de la capitale nationale ainsi que le projet de réaménagement du Central Vista. Les autorités affirment que ce changement vise à améliorer la coordination entre les nombreuses agences qui gèrent la capitale. Ce projet intervient alors que le BJP a retrouvé le pouvoir à Delhi après près de trois décennies. La secrétaire adjointe D Thara, fonctionnaire de l'IAS de la promotion 1995, continue de gérer des projets clés, notamment le Central Vista et l'Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation. L'actuel secrétaire du ministère, Srinivas Katikithala, supervise le portefeuille dans son ensemble. Le ministère a déjà été divisé par le passé, notamment en 1995, avant que des fusions ultérieures ne lui donnent sa structure actuelle en 2017. Un haut fonctionnaire a souligné que le développement urbain à Delhi reste un domaine dynamique en raison de la croissance démographique et de l'urbanisation rapide.
