Dan Evans annonce sa retraite après Wimbledon

Le joueur de tennis britannique Dan Evans a annoncé jeudi qu'il prenait sa retraite du tennis professionnel. Âgé de 36 ans, il mettra un terme à sa carrière à l'issue de l'édition de cette année du tournoi de Wimbledon.

Evans a publié la nouvelle sur Instagram, mettant ainsi fin à une carrière débutée en 2006. Il a décrit le sport comme lui ayant tout donné, y compris des amitiés, des expériences et des batailles qu'il a chéries.

Représenter la Grande-Bretagne lors de la Coupe Davis et des Jeux olympiques a été le plus grand honneur de sa carrière. Evans a disputé 28 rencontres de Coupe Davis et a contribué à la victoire de l'équipe lors du titre de 2015.

Sa carrière a été marquée par une suspension d'un an en 2017 après avoir été contrôlé positif à une substance interdite. Il a par la suite atteint le meilleur classement de sa carrière, soit la 21e place mondiale en 2023, année durant laquelle il a remporté un titre ATP 500 à Washington.

Evans, actuellement classé 217e, aura besoin d'une invitation (wildcard) pour intégrer le tableau principal de Wimbledon. Il a atteint le troisième tour du tournoi en 2016, 2019 et 2021.
