Dan Evans announces retirement after Wimbledon

British tennis player Dan Evans announced his retirement from professional tennis on Thursday. The 36-year-old will end his career after this year's Wimbledon Championships.

Evans posted the news on Instagram, closing a career that began in 2006. He described the sport as having given him everything, including friendships, experiences and battles that he cherished.

Representing Great Britain in Davis Cup and the Olympics stood out as the greatest honor of his career. Evans played in 28 Davis Cup ties and contributed to the team's 2015 title win.

His career included a one-year ban in 2017 after testing positive for a banned substance. He later reached a career-high ranking of world No. 21 in 2023 and won an ATP 500 title in Washington that year.

Evans, currently ranked 217th, will need a wildcard to enter the Wimbledon main draw. He reached the third round at the tournament in 2016, 2019 and 2021.
