Former ATP player Mats Wilander expressed optimism about Novak Djokovic's prospects at the upcoming Wimbledon Championships despite the Serb's recent injury struggles and limited play this season.
Wilander highlighted Wimbledon as the Grand Slam where Djokovic has the best chance to add to his seven titles there and reach a record 25 major wins.
"In Paris he lost to a great Fonseca, but Wimbledon is the Slam where he has the best chance of winning and finally reaching the record of 25 Slams, which has almost become an obsession," Wilander said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Djokovic has a 101-11 win-loss record at the tournament and is the second player after Roger Federer to reach 100 wins there in the Open Era. He reached the final as recently as 2024.
The 39-year-old has dealt with a right shoulder injury sustained in March that limited him to just four wins since the Australian Open final loss to Carlos Alcaraz. He is not scheduled to play any grass-court events before Wimbledon.
Wilander also picked Jannik Sinner as his top choice to win the title this year, citing the absence of Carlos Alcaraz.
