Dolphins tell teams De'Von Achane is not available

The Miami Dolphins are informing NFL teams that running back De'Von Achane is unavailable for trade amid their offseason roster changes. Despite parting ways with several key players, the team views the 24-year-old as a core piece for the future. Achane enters the final year of his rookie deal with extension talks on the horizon.

The Dolphins have traded wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos, along with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, receiver Tyreek Hill, and pass rusher Bradley Chubb as part of a roster rebuild. However, inquiries about Achane have been rebuffed, per ESPN. New general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and first-year head coach Jeff Hafley see him as central to the offense alongside quarterback Malik Willis, who signed a three-year, $67.5 million contract in free agency. A third-round pick in 2023, Achane has averaged 6.1 yards per touch when healthy. Last season, he led the NFL with 5.7 yards per carry, rushing for 1,350 yards, totaling 1,838 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl nod. Now in his third season, Achane is extension-eligible, with 2026 base salary set at $5.76 million and a $6 million cap hit. Spotrac projects a three-year, $36.7 million deal at $12.3 million annually, ranking him seventh among running backs. Recent market moves, like Kenneth Walker III's three-year, $45 million pact with the Chiefs and the Jets' tag on Breece Hall, may push his value higher. The Dolphins currently sit $8.2 million over the cap threshold.
