Fewer layoffs on Swedish job market in first quarter

Around 4,000 people were granted transition support from Trygghetsfonden TSL in the first quarter, 26 percent fewer than the previous year. The decline was sharpest in construction, down 67 percent. TSL CEO Caroline Söder sees signs of stabilization despite uncertainties.

Trygghetsfonden TSL, a placement service for LO union members through collective agreements, reports a sharp drop in transition support grants. In January to March this year, 4,000 people received support, compared to 26 percent more a year earlier.

The decline affects all sectors but is most evident in construction, with a 67 percent reduction. TSL CEO Caroline Söder commented: “It suggests the labor market is stabilizing, even though global uncertainty persists. But how the consequences of the geopolitical situation may affect the labor market remains hard to assess.”

The figures point to a brighter job market outlook, especially following prior declines.
