Le gouvernement sollicite l'avis de l'industrie sur la production locale de 200 produits pétrochimiques

Le Département pour la promotion de l'industrie et du commerce intérieur a demandé aux entreprises pétrochimiques d'évaluer la production locale de plus de 200 articles dépendants des importations. Cette requête fait suite aux pressions sur l'offre et les prix liées à la crise en Asie de l'Ouest.

Le DPIIT a formulé sa demande mercredi lors d'une réunion avec des représentants de l'industrie. Les produits listés représentent plus de 50 milliards de dollars d'importations annuelles et servent d'intrants clés pour l'emballage, la construction, l'automobile, l'agriculture et le textile.

Les experts notent qu'un grand nombre de ces produits, notamment le PVC, le polypropylène et l'acide phosphorique, manquent actuellement d'une solide capacité nationale. Ajay Srivastava, du GTRI, a déclaré que seul un nombre limité de secteurs présente une capacité locale significative, tandis que la plupart des gammes restent fortement dépendantes des importations.

Ajay Joshi, spécialiste du secteur chimique, a souligné que plus de 85 % des matières premières issues du pétrole brut sont importées, ce qui limite une localisation rapide. Il a suggéré de relier les projets de gazéification du charbon à la chaîne de valeur chimique afin d'utiliser plus efficacement les réserves de charbon de l'Inde.
