Hong Kong could act as convenor in China's global governance push

Analysts say Hong Kong can serve as a convenor and superconnector under China's vision for more equitable global governance following a new white paper.

Hong Kong could position itself as a magnet for international organisations and take the lead in setting standards, analysts have said.

The country said there was no need to rebuild or replace the existing international system, but supported changes more compatible and aligned with realities today.

Kenneth Wong, director of the School of Governance and Policy at the University of Hong Kong, said the paper had arrived at a moment when rules-based institutions needed reinforcing.
