Le musicien indépendant Doug Shaw est mort à 43 ans

Doug Shaw, musicien basé à New York connu pour son travail sous le nom de Highlife ainsi qu'avec Gang Gang Dance et White Magic, est décédé cette semaine à l'âge de 43 ans après avoir subi un accident vasculaire cérébral.

Né à Londres en 1982, Shaw s'est installé à New York en 2003. Au cours de sa carrière, il a joué aux côtés d'artistes tels que Lou Reed, Mdou Moctar, Sonic Youth et Bonnie Prince Billy. Bassiste au sein de Gang Gang Dance et multi-instrumentiste pour White Magic, il a également participé à tous les enregistrements du regretté musicien sierra-léonais Janka Nabay. Shaw a par ailleurs publié des œuvres en solo sous le nom de D.S. et a collaboré avec Geologist sur l'album A Shaw Deal paru en 2025.
