Kent Torneus had worked as a mechanic in the Kiruna mine for 29 years and one day when he was crushed by a hatch in a crusher machine. The accident occurred during maintenance work at a depth of 1,403 meters.
His son Rickard Torneus received the news that evening and describes waiting at the hospital while his father was brought up from the mine. Kent had ten months left until retirement.
The incident is being investigated by a prosecutor with a decision expected before midsummer. LKAB is awaiting comments until the preliminary investigation is complete.
