Korea, US share need to stably manage Coupang issue: envoy

Korean Ambassador to the United States Kang Kyung-wha said Wednesday that Korea and the United States share the understanding that they should stably manage the Coupang issue without burdening bilateral relations.

Ambassador Kang Kyung-wha made the remarks at a press briefing in Washington. The comments followed a House Judiciary Committee report and statements by a White House official criticizing South Korea's regulatory probes into Coupang's data leak as discriminatory.

Last week the committee issued an interim staff report accusing the Korean government of discriminatory attacks on Coupang. A White House official said the company is being singled out by President Lee Jae Myung's administration.

Seoul's foreign ministry expressed regret over the report, saying it reflected Coupang's claims in a one-sided manner. Kang said the embassy will continue consultations with the U.S. side to explain the government's position.
