Mjällby loses 0–2 at home to newcomers Örgryte

Last year's Allsvenskan champions Mjällby have started the season with two losses after a 0–2 defeat to newcomers Örgryte at Strandvallen. Despite creating several chances, the home side failed to break through Örgryte's defense. Captain Jesper Gustavsson described the situation as 'tough right now'.

Saturday's match at Strandvallen was Mjällby's first Allsvenskan home game since last fall's title celebration. With 3,884 spectators, fans hoped for champion form after the opening loss to Hammarby and progress to the Swedish Cup final.

Örgryte, who drew with Malmö FF in their Allsvenskan return, exploited counters effectively. Goalkeeper Robin Wallinder saved the first chance, but captain Anton Andreasson scored 1–0, followed by Jerome Tibbling's 2–0. 'We concede far too easy goals,' Jesper Gustavsson told TV4.

Coach Karl Marius Aksum made two halftime substitutions, and Mjällby ramped up pressure against Örgryte's defensive wall in front of goalkeeper Hampus Gustafsson. Several clear chances were created, but no goals. 'That we didn't score in the second half is unbelievable,' Aksum said.

Örgryte secured their first Allsvenskan win since 2009, with coach Andreas Holmberg 'very proud.' Mjällby, with a core from last year's record 75-point team, sit pointless with a 0–5 goal difference. Next up is Brommapojkarna.
