Uppsala municipality's naming committee decided on April 21 on the name for the new bridge over the railway near Vimpelgatan. The bridge will be named Sofielundsbron, after the adjacent Sofielund residential area.

The bridge will connect Kungsängen and Boländerna, replacing the existing level crossing at Vimpelgatan. Trafikverket is constructing it as part of adding two new railway tracks from Uppsala to the county border towards Stockholm. It will serve pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

The name Sofielundsbron comes from the Sofielund area, which has existed since the late 19th century. It originated from the Sofielund estate and formerly housed workers' dwellings for Uppsala Kakelfabrik. The Sofielund block and Sofielundsgatan remain nearby, north of the bridge.

The bridge will allow crossing the railway without waiting for barriers, improving the city's traffic situation, according to Uppsala municipality.
