The Joint Chiefs of Staff said Wednesday that one North Korean soldier crossed the border Tuesday night and was taken into South Korean custody.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff said the military secured custody of the soldier at the central front Tuesday night and relevant authorities are investigating the details.
The soldier is said to have expressed an intent to defect. The case marks the fourth such border crossing by a North Korean since the Lee Jae Myung administration began last June.
Previous incidents include an October crossing by a North Korean staff sergeant and two civilian cases in July.
