韓国の合同参謀本部は水曜日、北朝鮮の兵士1名が火曜日の夜に軍事境界線を越え、韓国軍によって身柄を確保されたと発表した。
合同参謀本部によると、軍は火曜日の夜、中部戦線でこの兵士の身柄を確保し、関係当局が詳細について調査を行っている。
この兵士は亡命の意思を表明しているとされる。今回の件は、昨年6月に李在明（イ・ジェミョン）政権が発足して以来、北朝鮮側から軍事境界線を越えてきた4例目のケースとなる。
過去には、10月に北朝鮮の曹長が越境したほか、7月には民間人による越境が2件発生している。
