Police in Dalarna see an increase in social media posts where criminal gangs attempt to recruit children. Contact usually occurs via chats or social media.
Children and young people are used because they receive lower or no penalties for crimes such as bombings or murders, in exchange for money. They may also be tasked with recruiting other children.
“Based on the information I have, recruitment occurs in Dalarna, as well as in the rest of the country,” says Christina Hallin, police press spokesperson.
The children often must send pictures of passports or ID cards to prove the assignment is carried out. If parents suspect contact with gangs, more information is available on the police website.
