Richmond women's golf team places fourth at Sea Best Invitational

The University of Richmond women's golf team finished fourth at the Sea Best Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida, on Tuesday. The Spiders posted a 54-hole total of 903, 39 strokes over par, in an 11-team field led by Florida, Duke and Stetson. Freshman Addie Doroh led the team with a tie for 13th place.

The Spider women's golf team opened its spring season with a solid performance at the Sea Best Invitational, securing fourth place among 11 teams. Richmond tallied 903 over 54 holes, finishing behind top-20 programs Florida and Duke, as well as Stetson from the Atlantic Sun Conference. The team carded a 9-over 297 in the final round on Tuesday, the third-lowest score of the day.

Coach Calle Barlow praised the effort despite challenging conditions. "We played really well today," Barlow said. "It was very, very cold and extremely windy yesterday. We do have some things to improve on, but it was really nice to get three rounds of golf under our belts and kind of see where we are."

Freshman Addie Doroh spearheaded the Spiders' lineup, tying for 13th individually at 5-over par 221. She fired an even-par 72 in the third round, two shots better than any teammate. This marks her second top-20 finish this season, following a fifth-place showing at the Tribe Invitational. "I think we knocked a little bit of dust off her yesterday, and I only can see her game getting better," Barlow said of Doroh. "She worked really hard over winter break, and that's showing as well, especially in today's round."

Junior Maya Beasley placed 20th at 9-over 225, her 13th career top-20 result. Senior Hannah Lydic tied for 25th at 12-over 228, while classmate Olivia Wilkie tied for 38th at 17-over 233 after improving by eight shots with a 2-over 74 in the final round. Sophomore Katie Magner rounded out the scoring five at a tie for 45th with 21-over 237.

Competing as individuals, sophomore Caroline Thompson tied for 55th at 28-over 244, and junior Heather Appelson finished 65th at 49-over 265. Barlow highlighted the team's cohesion: "This group really meshes well together. And it was a golf course where we could kind of see each other a lot. So we could waive. They could waive. It felt like we were all together, actually, which was really nice."

Richmond's next outing is the More Than Golf Invitational in Aiken, South Carolina, from March 1-3. The regular season concludes at the A-10 Championship in Orlando, Florida, April 20-22. "We do need to get on the course more," Barlow noted. "We do need to work on some long putting and some approach shots. We've just got to dial those in. But we do have time to get better between now and April."
