A suspicious dangerous object was found in central Malmö on Saturday evening, prompting a major police operation. The area was cordoned off and residents were sheltered while the bomb squad investigated with a robot. The object turned out to be harmless.
On Saturday evening shortly after 9:30 PM, police were alerted to Lantmannagatan in Sofielund, Malmö, after a bag was found outside a building entrance. Callers had discovered the object next to a property, according to police spokesperson Patric Fors.
A large number of police patrols responded along with the national bomb squad. The street was cordoned off between Lönngatan and Nobeltorget, and residents in three apartment buildings were sheltered for safety. "We call those who live there so that they shelter, meaning they don't go near the windows facing Lantmannagatan," Fors explained.
Several people heading to and from the bar district around Möllevången were forced to take detours. The initial check was done with a drone, but the bag combined with strong wind made it hard to identify the object, which was located near a shop in the area of Enskifteshagen.
Around 11:00 PM, the bomb squad's robot arrived at the scene. After a quick inspection, the object was deemed harmless, and the cordons were lifted shortly thereafter. The operation involved positioning police at street corners along the entire road to secure the area.
Police emphasize the importance of reporting suspicious objects, even though this incident ended without danger. No harm or threat materialized during the event.
