In 2021, Sandra Cuevas, then mayor of Cuauhtémoc, met with Ignacio Peregrín Schüll, younger brother of singer Belinda, at the Carajillo restaurant in Roma neighborhood. They discussed proposals on environmental policies and sustainable development. The meeting took place shortly after Peregrín lost his bid for federal deputy.
The meeting between Sandra Cuevas and Ignacio Peregrín Schüll occurred in 2021, shortly after Cuevas took office as head of Cuauhtémoc borough under the PAN, PRI, and PRD coalition. Peregrín, 29 years old and a businessman, had just unsuccessfully run as a federal deputy candidate for District XV in Benito Juárez with the Juntos Haremos Historia coalition, including Morena, PVEM, and PT. He received around 51,000 votes but lost to Luis Alberto Mendoza from the Va por México coalition.
The encounter took place at the Carajillo restaurant in Mexico City's Roma neighborhood, an establishment offering modern Mexican cuisine founded in 2020 by Nair Abraham with a concept developed by chef Juan Arroyo. Cuevas shared a photo of them smiling on social media and wrote: “I had the pleasure of dining at the Carajillo restaurant with my friend Ignacio Peregrín. We discussed new proposals and joint work plans aimed at sparking sustainable development in our Cuauhtémoc borough”.
Peregrín has shown interest in politics since a young age. In an interview with Adela Micha, he stated: “Since I was 15 years old, I have been working in politics in different places”. He worked at the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE) as a coordinator in the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) from October 2018, resigning for his campaign. He also expressed passion for renewable energies and environmental care, which were central to the discussion.
A Proceso investigation pointed to a possible conflict of interest during his AMEXCID tenure, as he was a partner in Limpernet, a company that secured government contracts. His 2019 asset declaration reported a monthly salary of 13,837 pesos and high school as his highest level of education, though his CV mentions a law degree without a confirmed professional license. Peregrín was studying law in 2019 at Universidad Tercer Milenio.
Since the meeting, Peregrín has not had significant public appearances or new candidacies. The Roma branch of Carajillo is currently closed.
