Le sultan de Brunei, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, a piloté son propre Boeing 747 jusqu'à Cebu, aux Philippines, pour assister au 48e sommet de l'ASEAN le 7 mai 2026.

L'appareil a atterri mercredi soir à la base aérienne Mactan-Benito N. Ebuen. Le sultan, pilote breveté, était accompagné de son fils, le prince Abdul Mateen. Il a été accueilli par des responsables locaux, dont le secrétaire Rex Gatchalian, la gouverneure Pamela Baricuatro et la maire Cynthia King-Chan. Le sultan pilote fréquemment son avion privé pour de tels déplacements, comme il l'avait fait lors d'une visite aux Philippines en 2017. Le sommet se déroule du 7 au 8 mai et se concentre sur la sécurité énergétique, la sécurité alimentaire et la sûreté des citoyens.
