A taxi driver in his 40s working in Stockholm is being prosecuted for three counts of gross sexual assault. The alleged crimes took place between November last year and February this year, according to the prosecutor's indictment.
In the first incident in November, a female customer who had fallen asleep during the ride woke up to find the man's hand inside her bra. She protested and asked to be let out, which he did.
A few weeks later, in January, he persuaded another customer to sit in the front seat. He complimented her, then grabbed her head to try to kiss her and touched her breast, per the indictment.
In the third case, following a nightclub visit, he convinced the woman to sit up front and touched her thigh while asking if she wanted to have sex with him. All three women report being upset and shaken by the events.
The man was arrested on February 17 and detained two days later. He denies the crimes and does not remember two of the women. In interrogation, he described the accusations as 'smutskastning' and said: 'It is a very serious accusation against me. It could be that she is a person who makes up false accusations to gain something.'
The prosecutor considers the crimes gross due to the man's role as a taxi driver, the nighttime occurrence, and the victims being alone and intoxicated in a vulnerable situation.
