Il se trouve toujours au stade de l'enquête préliminaire et n'a pas été inculpé. L'ambassade des États-Unis a refusé de commenter les cas de visa individuels, invoquant les règles de confidentialité. Le ministère des Affaires étrangères a renvoyé les demandes de renseignements à l'ambassade. Une demande préalable de Romualdez visant à lever son interdiction de sortie du territoire a été rejetée par le Sandiganbayan.
