La marine américaine a attaqué lundi le pétrolier MT Marivex, battant pavillon des Palaos et transportant 24 membres d'équipage indiens, au large des côtes d'Oman. Tous ont été secourus par la suite par l'armée de l'air omanaise.

Selon l'armée américaine, le navire a tenté de briser le blocus imposé par les États-Unis sur les ports iraniens. Le navire a effectué quatre tentatives malgré les avertissements et a utilisé les eaux territoriales d'Oman lors de sa dernière manœuvre. Un incendie a été signalé à 13h30 et le message de détresse de l'équipage faisait état d'une attaque au missile sur la salle des machines. Le pétrolier ne transportait aucune cargaison et naviguait de Karwar, dans l'État du Karnataka, vers Duqm, à Oman. Le ministère indien de la Marine marchande a confirmé que les 24 membres d'équipage indiens sont sains et saufs. L'ambassade d'Inde à Mascate a remercié les autorités omanaises pour leur intervention. Le syndicat Forward Seamen’s Union of India a exprimé son inquiétude concernant cet incident et a appelé à une action rapide pour protéger l'équipage.
