ABC has renewed the comedy Shifting Gears, starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, for a third season. The half-hour sitcom will return during the 2026-27 TV season. The renewal keeps Parker Restorations open for business.
ABC announced the renewal of Shifting Gears for Season 3, confirming more episodes of the series featuring Tim Allen as Matt Parker, the stubborn widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop, and Kat Dennings as his estranged daughter Riley. The show premiered in January 2025 and follows the family dynamics as Riley and her kids move into Matt's house, sparking personal restorations alongside the car work. The ensemble cast includes Seann William Scott as Gabriel, Daryl Chill Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia, with Jenna Elfman recurring as Eve. An episode count for the new season has not been disclosed. The Season 2 finale, aired on February 4, left viewers with romantic tension. Matt reconnected with Eve, surprising her at the airport to join her overseas tour after a failed date from a traditional values app. Riley ended her relationship with Andy, while Gabe broke up with Amelie, but arrived at the Parker house to find Andy vying to win her back, setting up a key decision for Season 3. This renewal adds Shifting Gears to ABC's growing list for 2026-27, including 9-1-1 for Season 10, Abbott Elementary for Season 6, and Grey's Anatomy for Season 23. The network has yet to decide on R.J. Decker, whose first season ended April 28.
