Action initiated against five temple staff for demanding money from devotees in Tiruchendur

Following a surprise inspection at the Subramanya Swami Temple in Tiruchendur, disciplinary measures have been taken against five staff members for alleged irregularities in collecting money from devotees.

Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments S. Ramesh visited the temple on Friday wearing a face mask. His aide inquired about darshan, and a priest allegedly demanded payment, which was transferred online.

Temple Joint Commissioner K. Ramu issued orders barring priest G. Ayappan from duties. Security personnel K. Karuppasamy and A. Thoppu were removed from duty, and tonsure workers P. Sankar and V. Nagaraj were suspended.

The minister stated that the inspection followed multiple complaints. He noted that both priests and officials were involved and said action would be taken without partiality. The inspection is ongoing.
