The AfD state association in North Rhine-Westphalia intends to withdraw its temporary injunction against the federal board. State leader Martin Vincentz requested de-escalation in an email to Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla.
Vincentz wrote that it had never been his intention to enter into conflict with the federal board or to give the impression of not taking its decisions seriously. He wanted to prevent damage to the party and avoid burdening elections in Saxony-Anhalt, Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The background is a chaotic candidate congress in Marl two weeks ago. Rival camps accused each other of extortion and physical altercations. The federal board demanded a new election and announced an investigation commission into finances and member admissions.
Vincentz regretted the escalation of recent days. The state leadership had previously obtained the injunction at the Düsseldorf regional court, which prohibited the federal board from intervening.
