Attorney General refuses to explain Leire Díez visits in Senate

Teresa Peramato appeared Friday before the Senate Justice Commission and declined to provide further details on meetings between Leire Díez and prosecution officials.

State Attorney General Teresa Peramato, appointed after her predecessor Álvaro García Ortiz was convicted, defended the independence of the institution. She stated that information had already been provided to the judge on meetings held between January and June 2025.

Peramato rejected accusations that the prosecution formed part of a criminal plot. She said such insinuations disrespect the 2,804 prosecutors who act with rigor and impartiality.

The witness denied issuing instructions in the Leire, Koldo or Plus Ultra cases. She also defended her appointment policy based on merit and capacity, despite criticism from PP and Vox over alleged purges.

Opposition senators questioned her silence on Leire Díez visits and sought clarifications on the defense of García Ortiz before the Constitutional Court.
