Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof announced a boost in medication delivery across the province's 135 municipalities. The measure expands the Medicamentos Bonaerenses program following national cuts to the Remediar program. Kicillof sharply criticized the national government for underfunding health policies.
During a tour in La Plata, Kicillof presented the expansion of the Medicamentos Bonaerenses program alongside Health Minister Nicolás Kreplak. They visited Hospital Rossi and the central depot at Hospital Interzonal “Dr. Alejandro Korn”, from which supplies are distributed across the province.
The program now covers 45 of the 74 drugs intended for people with exclusive public coverage, plus 91 other medications distributed through various health policies. The total investment amounts to $24.500 million. This responds to the underfunding of the national Remediar program, whose formulary went from over 100 to just three medications, with a 55% drop in distributed units compared to 2023.
Kicillof called the cut in medications for common diseases “criminal” and accused the government of “creating an unprecedented crisis in our health system”. He added: “After deregulating prices, they advanced with a cruel adjustment to empty the Remediar program and leave more than 20 million people without assistance”.
Kreplak noted that the national government reduced transfers linked to supplies and medications by 62%, but the province doubled efforts to ensure access to essential drugs.
