Ball x Pit announces first content update for late January

The indie roguelite game Ball x Pit will receive its first major free update, The Regal Update, on January 26. This update adds two new characters, eight new balls, and new passives to the 2025 title. Publisher Devolver Digital confirmed the details on January 19.

Ball x Pit, developed by Kenny Sun and Friends and published by Devolver Digital, emerged as one of Eurogamer's favorite games of 2025. The roguelite sensation, known for its unique ball-juggling mechanics, is set to expand with its inaugural free content drop.

On January 19, official channels announced The Regal Update, scheduled for release on January 26 across all platforms. The update introduces two new hunters: The Carouser, whose returning balls orbit around him, and The Falconer, who deploys two ball-shooting birds to boost damage output. These additions encourage new area-of-effect, defensive, and DPS-focused builds.

Further enhancements include eight new balls—details of which remain under wraps—and an unspecified number of new passives. An official post teased, "BALL x PIT’s first FREE major update, The Regal Update, launches on January 26th on all platforms! Adding:🤠2 new characters - The Carouser & The Falconer🏐8 new balls🎯New passives✨Plus a nice surprise you’re going to love!" A short, goofy trailer accompanied the reveal, hinting at an additional surprise yet to be disclosed.

Patch notes are expected soon, potentially addressing criticisms of the game's endgame, which currently relies on replaying higher difficulty levels or maxing stats that lose relevance over time. In a roguelite genre filled with robust long-term loops, this update could help sustain player engagement for dedicated fans.
