Four economists commissioned by the government in May recommend questioning automatic indexations and considering a 'blank year' from 2027 to stabilize public debt.
Experts Xavier Jaravel, Xavier Ragot, Jean-Luc Tavernier and Natacha Valla delivered their report as part of the 'mission on the transparency of public finances'. They estimate 126 billion euros in savings needed by 2032 to stabilize the debt.
The report calls for no taboos on automatic indexation mechanisms. A 'blank year' is proposed starting with the 2027 budget.
'There must be no taboos', stresses one of the authors, referring to this measure that would break with automatic increases in social benefits and public wages.
