Beth Orton has announced details of her ninth studio album, The Ground Above—following March's lead single of the same name—set for release on June 26 via Partisan Records. The self-produced record features collaborations with Nick Hakim, Tom Skinner, Shahzad Ismaily, and others. She has also revealed a headlining tour starting in September across North America and the UK.
This is Orton's first album in four years, following 2022's Weather Alive. The LP is divided into a fragmented first half and an expansive second section with broader melodies. The new single 'Waiting'—the second from the album after 'The Ground Above,' released March 31 with producer Shahzad Ismaily and musicians including Vishal Nayak—is described by Orton as 'a celebration of moving out of the holding pattern fear keeps us in.' The tracklist includes 'Before I Knew,' 'Cigarette Curls,' 'Celestial Light,' and 'Otherside.'
The tour begins September 15 at The Miracle Theatre in Washington, D.C., with stops in Philadelphia, New York, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, and more in the US and Canada, before continuing in October to Brighton, Manchester, Glasgow, and London. Full dates are available through her official channels.
