Body of final trapped miner recovered 33 days after Santa Fe mine collapse

Authorities recovered the body of Leandro Isidro Beltrán Reséndiz, the last of four miners trapped in the March 25 tailings dam collapse at Sinaloa's Santa Fe mine in El Rosario. Found dead after 33 days underground, his body was located early on April 27. Two miners—José Alejandro Cástulo Colín and Francisco Zapata Nájera—had been rescued alive earlier, while a third was found dead on April 8.

The Unified Search Command located the body of 54-year-old Leandro Isidro Beltrán Reséndiz from Zimapán, Hidalgo, at around 2:15 a.m. on April 27 in the 48-2 North ramp.

The collapse trapped four miners; two were rescued alive in the first two weeks, a third's body was recovered on April 8, leaving Beltrán Reséndiz as the last sought. Mexico's National Civil Protection Coordination oversaw the multi-agency effort.

President Claudia Sheinbaum had previously highlighted the coordinated operation, which included water pumping and diving to rescue Zapata Nájera. The government notified Sinaloa's State Attorney General's Office for body recovery and pledged support to the family.

The operation mobilized 389 personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense, Secretariat of the Navy, Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, Federal Electricity Commission, and Sinaloa government.
