The Mexican National Team has adopted Caifanes' "Aquí No Es Así" as its anthem ahead of the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match against England. The song gained traction after a video posted on the team's social media on July 2.
The track from the band's 1994 album El Nervio del Volcán is being used to foster unity and strength among players and supporters. The match is scheduled for July 5 at the Ciudad de México Stadium.
Vocalist Saúl Hernández expressed surprise at the song's viral spread and noted its deeper themes of self-reflection. He attended the Mexico versus Ecuador match earlier in the week with his son.
Hernández described the World Cup, co-hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada, as a historic moment that highlights the country's resilience. He also called for reflection on social issues, including the crisis of disappearances.
The matchup marks the first meeting between the two teams since 1966. Caifanes is set to perform at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City on July 11.
