Cal Raleigh and J.P. Crawford return from injured list

The Seattle Mariners welcomed back catcher Cal Raleigh and infielder J.P. Crawford from the injured list Tuesday ahead of a six-game homestand.

Raleigh rejoined the club 33 days after landing on the injured list with a right oblique strain. Crawford returned 10 days after suffering a right hand contusion.

Manager Dan Wilson highlighted the impact of Raleigh’s return. “Obviously, getting Cal back is huge,” Wilson said. “Having him behind the plate and active and ready to go is a huge lift.”

During his rehab assignment, Raleigh batted 6-for-14 with five home runs in four games at Triple-A Tacoma. Crawford started at third base for the first time since joining the Mariners in 2019.

The returns provide added stability after the team used multiple players at several positions during a recent road trip.

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Oakland Athletics 5-4 on Wednesday at T-Mobile Park, thanks to consecutive hits from Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez and Josh Naylor in the bottom of the ninth. Oakland's Nick Kurtz had tied the game with a solo home run earlier in the top of the ninth off Andrés Muñoz. The victory allowed Seattle to avoid a sweep after the Athletics took the first two games of the series.

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has returned to the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Braves at T-Mobile Park. He is serving as designated hitter after missing three games due to right side soreness. The team avoided placing the AL MVP runner-up on the injured list.

The New York Mets activated catcher Francisco Alvarez from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday ahead of their series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field. Alvarez returned in just over four weeks after tearing the meniscus in his right knee on May 12.

The Texas Rangers have placed shortstop Corey Seager on the 10-day injured list due to lower back inflammation. The move comes after Seager experienced minor back spasms that kept him out of recent games. Utilityman Michael Helman has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to fill the roster spot.
