Carlos Beltrán will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 26 alongside Jeff Kent and Andruw Jones. The former outfielder becomes the sixth Hall of Famer from Puerto Rico.
Beltrán received the news of his election in January. He reflected on the moment during a conference call, saying the honor had changed his life and meant a great deal to his family and Puerto Rico.
The 1999 American League Rookie of the Year compiled 2,725 hits, 435 home runs and 312 stolen bases over 20 seasons. He earned nine All-Star selections and three Gold Gloves while playing for seven teams, including the Mets and Astros.
Beltrán spent four years on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America ballot before gaining induction with 84.2 percent of the vote. His plaque will feature a Mets cap, making him the third player so honored after Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza.
