Yankees general manager Brian Cashman voiced strong support for manager Aaron Boone on Thursday despite the team's recent struggles. The comments came ahead of the club's series finale against the Rays.
Cashman praised Boone's work ethic and preparation during a stretch in which the Yankees had dropped 15 of 20 games. He noted that Boone has managed the club since 2018 and led it to an American League pennant in 2024.
The general manager also defended hitting coach James Rowson while acknowledging the lineup's offensive woes, which include an average of just 2.8 runs per game since June 20. Cashman said the team's recent difficulties cannot be attributed solely to the absence of captain Aaron Judge, who has been sidelined since late May with a fractured right rib.
Cashman described the Yankees' pattern of midseason dips as recurring "storms" that occur consistently in the summertime, even with roster changes. He said the club has held internal discussions to address the issue but lacks a clear explanation.
