Colgas and Ladrillera Santafé inaugurate solar park in Soacha

Colgas and Ladrillera Santafé launched operations of a solar park in Soacha, Cundinamarca, with a $16 billion peso investment. The project generates 5.4 MWp and aims to cut the brick factory's energy costs by up to 30%, avoiding at least 1,400 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Colgas and Ladrillera Santafé inaugurated on April 22 one of Cundinamarca's largest solar parks, located in Soacha. This self-generation project, with a joint investment of $16 billion pesos, produces 5.4 megawatts peak through photovoltaic panels.

Juan Fermín Restrepo, general manager of Ladrillera Santafé, emphasized the project's sustainability benefits. "We believe that a project like this, with two solar farms benefiting the company's operations, was very important for us from a sustainability standpoint," he stated. The park will avoid emissions of at least 1,400 tons of carbon dioxide.

Didier Builes, president of Colgas, noted that the system replaces 30% of the brick factory's energy consumption from the grid, used for offices and plants. "The economic impact is significant because energy consumption accounts for about 25% of our cost structure. A 30% reduction in that is very important," Restrepo added.

The inauguration event was attended by Soacha's mayor, Víctor Julián Sánchez Acosta, and Milena Fonseca, Cundinamarca's secretary for Sustainable Energy and Mining, who voiced support for such initiatives.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) inaugurated factories with significant capacity for the energy sector in Hawassa Industrial Park on Miyazya 17, 2018 EC (April 25, 2026). Three solar factories and a supporting gas factory were launched. Together, the solar plants will generate over 11.3 gigawatts of clean power annually.

Ecopetrol and Frontera Energy have launched the Quifa Solar Farm in Puerto Gaitán, Meta, with a 50.1 MW capacity. Supported by over 81,800 solar panels, it will generate 76.1 GWh annually to power oil fields and supply energy equivalent to 42,000 homes. The initiative cuts CO₂ emissions by about 11,500 tons per year.

Residents of the Tercio de Terol colony in Carabanchel have formed Madrid's first energy community after Iberdrola bills up to 1,000 euros. Led by Marian Álvarez, they installed solar panels in 2021 and are inspiring other neighborhoods. The project covers 41 homes and awaits activation approval.

In challenging times, tobacco farmers from Villa Clara have donated 48 photovoltaic modules to ensure emergency electrical power for vital centers in the province. This initiative shows the personal commitment of these producers, who used their savings to support institutions like polyclinics, maternity homes, and hospitals. Other economic actors are joining with additional donations of food and equipment.

Juan Esteban Calle, president of Cementos Argos, stated that the company is moving proactively to reactivate its business in Venezuela, where the expropriated plants operate at 10% of their capacity. The reactivation will start with demand from the oil and gas sectors, and compensation of US$800 million is expected for assets seized since 2007. Calle affirmed that the process will be irreversible and will develop in phases.

President Gustavo Petro defended Colombia's transition to clean energies, stating that oil exploration contracts from the last decade have not found large amounts of oil. He insisted on lowering the real interest rate to boost the economy. He highlighted advances like investments in solar substations and potential exports.
