Colombia coca leaf crops reach 261,000 hectares in 2024

Coca leaf crops in Colombia totaled 261,000 hectares in 2024, according to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

The report shows a 3.5% increase from the 253,000 hectares recorded in 2023. The Pacific region drove the growth with a 14% rise, moving from 107,078 to 121,612 hectares.

Other areas recorded mixed changes. Putumayo-Caquetá reduced its crops by 14% to 49,190 hectares, while Catatumbo grew 11% to 48,739 hectares. The Central region fell 7% to 34,348 hectares.

Tumaco in Nariño led with nearly 31,000 hectares. Overall, 180 municipalities reported coca presence, though half the total area is concentrated in just ten of them.

At this scale, coca ranks as the eighth largest crop in the country, behind coffee, oil palm and rice.

Colombian economy grows 2.2% in first quarter of 2026

The Dane reported that Colombia's GDP rose 2.2% in the first quarter of 2026, below the 2.5% recorded a year earlier. Growth was driven mainly by public spending and household consumption, while sectors such as construction and agriculture posted declines.
