The Henderson Silver Knights defeated the San Jose Barracuda 5-4 in overtime on Wednesday, April 22, in the opener of their Pacific Division first-round series. Rookie Trevor Connelly sealed the victory by taking an outlet pass from Matyas Sapovaliv, racing down the right wing, and beating goaltender Laurent Brossoit with a snap shot just 38 seconds into the extra frame. This was the first Calder Cup Playoff contest ever held at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson. Henderson goaltender Carl Lindbom, who entered with an impressive 18-0-2 record in his last 20 regular-season decisions, made 18 saves in the win. Brossoit stopped 34 shots for San Jose. Both teams overcame third-period deficits to force overtime. San Jose built a 3-1 lead before Raphael Lavoie scored late in the second period. Jeremy Davies and Lavoie then connected 67 seconds apart in the third to give Henderson a 4-3 advantage. Igor Chernyshov tied it on a power play with 9:19 remaining in regulation. Other goals for San Jose came from Kasper Halttunen, Jimmy Huntington, and Colin White. Lukas Cormier contributed a goal and an assist for Henderson. Game 2 is scheduled for Friday night in Henderson, with a potential Game 3 on Sunday if necessary.
