Corbin Carroll's grand slam lifts Diamondbacks over Angels

Corbin Carroll hit a second-inning grand slam to spark an 8-1 win for the Diamondbacks over the Angels on Wednesday afternoon at Chase Field.

The victory marked the Diamondbacks' highest run total since their 9-1 win over the Rockies on May 24. It also ended a stretch without double-digit hits that dated back to June 9.

Carroll's blast came after the Angels had taken a 1-0 lead on Zach Neto's leadoff homer. With the bases loaded and two outs, Carroll drove a Sam Aldegheri changeup over the right-field wall for his fifth career grand slam.

Eduardo Rodriguez earned his 100th career victory by allowing just that one run over seven innings. The left-hander became the 17th active pitcher and the ninth Venezuelan-born pitcher to reach the milestone.

Manager Torey Lovullo called the homer a key moment that eased tension built over recent games. Rodriguez said afterward that reaching 100 wins with this team felt special.
